About the Curators

Madge Scott is an awards winning artist, whose work will perhaps delight and amaze you. She is purely a self-taught artist. Her first effort at painting began when her son went missing in the 1990s. Her work includes thousands of drawings and paintings of all mediums. She is very passionate about nature, especially the skies above. Her work includes the history of the pocomanians of Jamaica, the maroons and many other faces which she encounters in her everyday life.

Her work is sold worldwide. Madge has shown her work in galleries in the U.S and also the State Department's Embassy Program in the Congo. A widow of 15 years, she has one son in Jamaica, a daughter in the U.S anda deceased son. Madge is a proud member of the Upstream Gallery in Hastings on Hudson and the Blue Door Gallery in Yonkers. She's also a recipient of Westchester County Board of Legislators Proclamation, and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award for her work, to name a few.

Katori Walker is a self-taught visual artist, muralist, and author. She specializes in children’s illustrations and mixed media. Her bold, bright, simplistic characters transplant the viewer into the space of wonder and possibility. Katori’s art is meant to create a sense of belonging and empowerment in the world. Her mission is to encourage and uplift people to feel the freedom of deep authentic self-exploration and to embrace positive cultural values. Her art is meant to stimulate the brain to see more than what is in front of you by using your own imagination to create your own story or spark a memory.

Many years ago she tapped into painting as a means of self-healing after suffering from a traumatic life experience which left her feeling lost and disconnected. Instead of painting hate and fear, she decided to create paintings that bring you to a happy and safe space of innocence where the inner-child is celebrated and powerful. Katori’s latest endeavors are abstract art and collages. She was born in New York City and was also raised in Puerto Rico and St. Thomas. She feels that her Caribbean background contributes to her love of bright colors and textures.

Katori is the co-creator of the 100 Words Of Wisdom Exhibit which involved the body art and photography of 141 seniors. She also co-curated the YES YONKERS! Community Project which involved over 1,200 participants that included children and adults. Currently, it is the largest community art quilt in Yonkers. In addition to commissioned art pieces, Katori has murals in Yonkers and her Katori Kids can be seen on community garden sheds in the Bronx. She has also been awarded a Proclamation from the Westchester Board of Legislators for all her work in the community.
